SUMMARY:The Pasaquoyan: screening at Central Cinema
DESCRIPTION:The Pasaquoyan\nA Special Screening at Central Cinema\nWednesday\, November 4\, 2026 | 6 p.m.\nCentral Cinema | Knoxville\nFree and open to the public \nStep into the extraordinary world of Eddie Owens Martin\, better known as St. EOM\, in The Pasaquoyan\, a 1993 documentary directed by Doug Loggins. \nThis film traces the remarkable life and visionary imagination of Martin (1908–1986)\, the self-taught artist\, mystic\, fortune teller\, prophet\, and architect behind Pasaquan\, an eight-acre psychedelic art environment in Buena Vista\, Georgia. From his departure from rural Georgia as a teenager to his years in 1920s New York City and his eventual return to Georgia\, Martin’s unconventional journey culminated in the creation of a mythic world where past and future collide. \nFeaturing interviews with figures including author Tom Patterson and musician Bruce Hampton\, The Pasaquoyan offers a fascinating portrait of an artist who transformed his life\, surroundings\, and spiritual visions into an immersive work of art. \nSt. EOM is a featured artist in the Knoxville Museum of Art’s exhibition No-Man’s-Land\, on view through November 8\, 2026. This screening offers a chance to delve deeper into the life and legacy of one of the exhibition’s most enigmatic and visionary artists. \nThe Pasaquoyan\nDirected by Doug Loggins\n1993 | 57 minutes

SUMMARY:Hai-Wen Lin Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception \nHai-Wen Lin bittersun  \nIn this forthcoming exhibition\, Taiwanese-American artist Hai-Wen Lin fashions garments as kites: creating sculptures that move between the body and the environment. Made with the intimacy of clothing and the logic of flight\, the works draw on visual traditions from Buddhist jiasha robes to Appalachian quilts\, becoming a practice of “tending”—a way\, as the artist says “to clothe the wind.” \nWith delicacy and desire\, these works also care for bodies and landscapes that shift as constantly as the seasons. Moving between field and sky\, Lin’s work asks how we carry one another forward and what it means to belong—to the living\, the land\, and the cycles that tie them together. \nLive music by Ryan Dunaway and Esther Sorin \nCatering provided by Silver Queen Kitchen \n  \nThursday\, October 29th \n5:30 – 6:30 pm: Members Only Hour/Artists Discussion \n6:30 – 8:30 pm: Open to the Public \nHors d’oeuvres + Cash Bar + Specialty Beverage + Live Music \nThis event is made possible with generous support from:\nAsian Culture Center of Tennessee and Joel Dryer

SUMMARY:Secret Mall Apartment screening at Central Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Secret Mall Apartment screening at Central Cinema  \nWednesday\, September 30 | 6 p.m.\nCentral Cinema\nKnoxville\, Tennessee \nJoin the Knoxville Museum of Art at Central Cinema for a special screening of Secret Mall Apartment (2024)\, a wildly inventive documentary directed by Jeremy Workman. \nIn 2003\, eight young Rhode Islanders secretly created an apartment inside the Providence Place Mall and lived there for four years\, documenting their unconventional home and artistic experiment along the way. They smuggled in furniture\, tapped into the mall’s electricity\, and even constructed a wall using more than two tons of cinderblock. \nWhat began as an audacious act of rebellion became something much more meaningful: a creative community\, a space for artistic expression\, a response to gentrification\, and an exploration of what it means to reclaim an unexpected place as your own. Featuring footage captured by the artists themselves\, Secret Mall Apartment offers a funny\, fascinating\, and poignant look at art\, friendship\, community\, and challenging the boundaries of public and private space. \nFilm: Secret Mall Apartment (2024)\nDirector: Jeremy Workman\nRuntime: 91 minutes\nGenre: Documentary\nLocation: Central Cinema\, 1205 N Central St\, Knoxville\, TN 37917 \nTickets: KMA Members: FREE | Non-Members: $5 \nPresented by: Knoxville Museum of Art

SUMMARY:No-Man's-Land Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the visionary work of Kentucky coal-miner-turned-evangelist Harrison Mayes after he experienced a life-changing epiphany\, No-Man’s-Land explores genres\, beings\, and geographies that exceed singular definition. Born in Tennessee in 1898\, Mayes’ placed concrete beacons across the country\, with plans for them to reach outer space\, and beyond. He installed these markers in so-called “no-man’s-land”—narrow\, ambiguous strips of land between state and private property where no one authority could claim jurisdiction. \nThis exhibition looks to artists who work in similarly uncharted territory. Bringing together contemporary practices that move through the borderlands between bodies\, spiritual traditions\, cultures\, countries\, and planets\, No-Man’s-Land considers how art inhabits these thresholds\, envisioning new ways of being in the spaces in between. \nThursday\, August 13th \n5:30 – 6:30 pm: Members Only Hour/Artists Discussion \n6:30 – 8:30 pm: Open to the Public \nHors d’oeuvres + Cash Bar + Specialty Beverage
