SUMMARY:Christmas in July - Screenings at Central Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Christmas is coming early to Central Cinema!\n\nBeat the summer heat with two beloved holiday classics during our Christmas in July screenings!\n\nDouble Feature:Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas SpecialEmmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas\nWhen: July 1 & July 11Where: Central CinemaCost: Free for KMA members | $5 non-members\n\nPlus\, on July 11\, stick around for a special appearance by artist and puppeteer Wayne White!\n\nThe Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special is a kitschy 1988 holiday classic. The loose plot follows Pee-wee Herman compiling a massive\, mile-long wish list for Santa. When Santa finally arrives\, he reveals that fulfilling Pee-wee’s greedy demands means all the other children in the world will receive no presents. After realizing his mistake and getting prodded by his celebrity friends\, Pee-wee selflessly gives his gifts back to Santa\, and in return\, gets to ride in the sleigh to help deliver toys.\n\nEmmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas follows a poor\, widowed otter and her son who separately enter a local Christmas talent contest to win the $50 prize\, hoping to buy each other a holiday gift. Inspired by O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi\,” the heartfelt story is a classic Jim Henson musical.\n\nGrab your favorite holiday sweater (or Hawaiian shirt) and celebrate the most wonderful time of the year…six months early.

SUMMARY:June Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join the KMA Book Club for an informative\, and often lively\, discussion of art inspired literature. KMA Book Club meets 3 times a year giving you plenty of time to read\, re-read\, and enjoy a book related to the arts.\n\nJune 2026: “My Friends”\, a Novel by Fredrik Backman\nMost people don’t even notice them—three tiny figures sitting at the end of a long pier in the corner of one of the most famous paintings in the world. But Louisa\, an aspiring artist herself\, knows otherwise\, and she is determined to find out the story of these three enigmatic figures. \nTwenty-five years earlier\, in a distant seaside town\, a group of teenagers find refuge from their bruising home lives by spending long summer days on an abandoned pier. These lost souls find in each other a reason to get up each morning\, a reason to dream\, a reason to love. \nOut of that summer emerges a transcendent work of art\, a painting that will unexpectedly be placed into eighteen-year-old Louisa’s care. She embarks on a surprise-filled cross-country journey to learn how the painting came to be and to decide what to do with it. The closer she gets to the painting’s birthplace\, the more nervous she becomes about what she’ll find. Louisa is proof that happy endings don’t always take the form we expect in this stunning testament to the transformative\, timeless power of friendship and art. \nTo join or for more information please contact Margo Clark at mclark@knoxart.org \nFree & open to the public.
