KMA Teacher Workshop with the Curator of A Two-Way Mirror Exhibition

The Knoxville Museum of Art Education Department will host a teacher’s workshop for K-12 art teachers and college professors on Saturday, February 7, with the Curator of the exhibition A Two-Way Mirror: Double Consciousness in Contemporary Glass by Black Artists. Jabari Owens-Bailey is the Curatorial Education Program Manager at Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington.

The workshop will start with a gallery walkthrough with the curator at 10:30 am followed by Q&A and a hands-on activity with a writing prompt exploring the key concept behind the exhibition of double consciousness, which “refers to the divided consciousness between how one sees oneself, and the simultaneous awareness of how one is being perceived by the world” around you. This workshop will help teachers prepare for class visits to the museum during the exhibition and provide a hands-on activity that can be used in the classroom after a tour or as a standalone project. The workshop will conclude at 12:00 pm.

Space is limited, please register in advance by emailing the KMA’s Director of Education, DeLena Feliciano at dfeliciano@knoxart.org or by calling (865) 934-2041. Registration is required and will close February 5th or when capacity is reached.
