Auxillary Groups

THE GUILD OF THE KNOXVILLE MUSEUM OF ART

The Guild of the Knoxville Museum of Art was created in 1996 with the purpose to encourage participation and support for KMA as a cultural center for our area. The name “The Guild” was taken to honor the former organization, The Dulin Gallery of Art Guild, which promoted art in the East Tennessee region.

The primary purpose of the Guild is to raise funds for the Knoxville Museum of Art. The Guild also educates and builds appreciation among members for the vast richness of artistic expression. It assists in promoting the museum and its programs in the community, and gives KMA members an opportunity to go above and beyond regular membership by participating in extra museum activities.

You must be a member of the Knoxville Museum of Art to join the Guild. Membership dues are $50 per household, and are renewable annually.

Guild privileges include:

  • Art appreciation and education programs
  • Guild Membership Directory with more than 200 names and addresses
  • Exclusive “Members Only” events
  • Subscription to PORTFOLIO, the Guild Newsletter
  • Leadership opportunities in major fundraising events

Collectors Circle

Collectors Circle is a KMA membership group that provides opportunities for in-depth, close-up, and direct experiences with art through a unique “behind the scenes” approach and direct involvement and investment in the museum’s collection.

Collectors Circle members explore the inner workings of the art world and learn directly from the actual works of art, the artists who create them, the art experts who interpret them, and the people who collect art. Collectors Circle visits important art destinations, private collections, and artists’ studios locally and nationally to gain a broad perspective on today’s art world. Trips are guided by our curators, who are well versed in their fields and care that members get the most out of their experiences. Past destinations include New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Santa Fe, Boston, and Charleston. Because the travel groups are small (25-30 people), members interact comfortably with others who share a passion for art and learning.

Collectors Circle members are also involved in selecting additions to the KMA art collection. Typically each year, members review selected art works the museum has targeted as potential acquisitions, then vote on which work(s) to purchase for the KMA. Display labels for all acquired works thereafter bear the following note of recognition: “Purchased with funds from the Knoxville Museum of Art’s Collectors Circle.” Collectors Circle acquisitions include works by Catherine Wiley, Wade Guyton, and Beauford Delaney.

Membership in Collectors Circle is open to persons who are already members of the KMA at the Fellow ($250) level or above. An additional annual fee of $800 per couple, or $500 per individual, goes directly to the Collectors Circle fund. Ninety percent of the membership fee is restricted to the purchase of art. The remainder is used for Collectors Circle programs and operational expenses. Membership commitments are required in July, although members may choose to pay in two installments. (Confirming financial commitments at the beginning of the fiscal year enables the KMA to make trip deposits and determine with sufficient lead time the funds available for museum art purchases.)

Art House

Launched in 2016, Art House aims to connect a new generation to the KMA by providing opportunities to learn through art. Experiences for members include behind-the-scenes tours of museum archives, home tours of private local collectors, artist studio visits, secret location holiday parties, exhibition themed events such as Donuts and Dine, Whisky and Welding, and Romantic Spirits, and special events featuring artists with methods beyond brushes.

Open to Museum members under 50; additional fee.
