Education Program Coordinator 

The Knoxville Museum of Art is accepting applications for the position of Education Program Coordinator. This role will facilitate educational programs for a broad and diverse audiences at the Knoxville Museum of Art. The Education Program Coordinator demonstrates excellent presentation, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with a range of fine arts methods, material, art principles and techniques, tools, and art historical topics are required. Programs primarily consist of lectures, school/adult tours, family events, outreach, and workshops.

The Education Program Coordinator position is part-time, working approximately 20-25 hours per week during regular business hours. This position will require more hours in the summer. The schedule is subject to irregular hours due to program needs; evenings and weekends may be required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the education and visitor experience team, this position assists with the development of materials for programs and school field trips.
  • Scheduling school and group tours; getting feedback from teachers or group contacts, distributing related paperwork, or educational materials.
  • Effectively present information and work with diverse audiences in an articulate, thoughtful, and enthusiastic manner; adapting programs in response to age, ability, and feedback of participants.
  • Planning, coordinating, implementing museum special events, and educational programs.
  • Scheduling and coordinating volunteers for programs.
  • Maintain the studio, supplies, teaching materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain attendance, punctuality and performance standards set forth in the Knoxville Museum of Art employee handbook.

Requirements:

  • College level Studio Art, Art History or Art Education courses required; a Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience working in education.
  • Must possess enthusiasm and resourcefulness necessary to work with artists, adults, families, and young children.
  • Proficiency in, MS Office, Eventbrite/registration software, and general office equipment.
  • The ability to supervise contracted teachers, and professional artists.
  • Customer service experience and the ability to work effectively with varied constituents including the public, school personnel, adults, and volunteers.
  • Must have professional communication skills and e-mail etiquette.
  • Must be able to problem solve on the spot as issues arise. Adept at taking initiative, working without continuous supervision, and working as a team member.
  • Requires a driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
