Exhibition NOTES
Gabriel Lester: Melancholia in Arcadia
In collaboration with the recently re-opened and restored Eugenia Williams House, the KMA presents a site-specific installation by renowned Dutch artist Gabriel Lester titled Melancholia in Arcadia. With curtains billowing into a room, frozen uncannily in time, this work refers to the gesture of opening windows to set free the soul of the deceased, as well as the idea of a spirit present in a room, mysteriously lifting the curtains to reveal its presence. As such, this installation beautifully celebrates the lasting legacy of Eugenia Williams, flowing in and out of the house that bears so much of her spirit.
