August 29, 2016

Inaugural event will connect prospective art students with college representatives

Memphis College of Art (MCA) will partner with the Knoxville Museum of Art (KMA) in Knoxville, Tennessee, to hostthe inaugural East Tennessee Portfolio Day at the museum, 1050 World’s Fair Park, on Sunday, October 2 from 1–5 p.m. in the Ann and Steve BaileyHall. The event is free and open to the public.

By hosting East Tennessee Portfolio Day at KMA, MCA will allow prospective art students to meet with art college representatives from around the country.Similar portfolio events require students in the East Tennessee region and surrounding states to travel long distances, which can be prohibitive to theirparticipation. MCA’s partnership with KMA will bring this important and informative event for the first time to prospective art students in Knoxville.

East Tennessee Portfolio Day will give high school and college transfer students the chance to review their portfolios with college representatives, receivecritique on their work, and learn more about attending a professional art college. All colleges participating in the event are accredited by the NationalAssociation of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Participating in East Tennessee Portfolio Day will give the schools an additional opportunity to makecontributions to KMA’s scholarship fund, which will support a scholarship to be awarded to a student at the East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition,on view this fall at KMA Nov. 25– Jan. 8, 2017. East Tennessee Portfolio Day will begin a week of local college fairs, including the Knox County CollegeFair on October 4.
